Humphry Repton was commissioned in 1790 to design the landscape at Rode.

Repton was not given the opportunity to put his plans in place but John Webb, a Cheshire based landscapist, carried out the work to Repton's specification between 1800 and 1810. In particular the creation of Rode Pool, a lake of some 40 acres and a mile long, which is now one of the principal features of the Rode landscape. The park has many fine trees and is now grazed by sheep.
